9/11, Iran, and The Magog War

The following is my attempt to link some recent history to Biblical prophecy.

On September 11, 2001, America was attacked by Islamic extremists.  On October 7, 2001 the U. S. and certain allies sent troops to Afghanistan.   American troops are still there in 2011.  On March 20, 2003 George Bush sent troops into Iraq to rid that nation of weapons of mass destruction, which apparently Iraq didn't have, at least when the attack took place.

The 9/11 Commission was established on November 24, 2002, to investigate all aspects of the 9/11 attacks on America.  The commission's findings were released on May 27, 2004, in what has been called the "The 9/11 Commission Report".

The following statements are taken from the commission's report, PDF version.  "The relationship between al Qaeda and Iran demonstrated that Sunni-Shia divisions did not necessarily pose an insurmountable barrier to cooperation in terrorist operations.  As will be described in chapter 7, al Qaeda contacts with Iran continued in ensuing years". (page 78)  "… there is strong evidence that Iran facilitated the transit of al Qaeda  members into and out of Afghanistan before 9/11, and that some of these were future 9/11 hijackers". (page 241)

From what this report says, it appears that the Iranian government assisted al Qaeda and certain 9/11 hijackers in their travel plans.  Therefore, the  9/11 Commission recommended that the U.S. government further investigate  Iranian involvement in the 9/11 attacks, as seen in the following quote.  "We believe this topic requires further investigation by the U.S. government" (page 241)

After being presented with the commission's report, the U.S. government had to decide whether to investigate Iran's involvement in the 9/11 attacks as the report suggested.  The Bush administration had already sent troops to Afghanistan and Iraq, so sending troops to Iran would have possibly been difficult.  So, for one reason or another, both the Bush and the Obama administration has done little about the issue of Iran's involvement in 9/11.  As a matter of fact, President Obama has gone out of his way not to irritate Iran lest Iran initiates something worse than 9/11.  What could be worse?  Iran shooting nuclear missiles towards Jerusalem and Tel Aviv would start World War 3.  I think that would be worse than 9/11.

So what does all of this have to do with the Bible?  I'm  convinced from the Biblical record that God is actively involved in the affairs of nations. That includes all aspects of 9/11.  Through various ways and means, behind the scene where few see His involvement, our Lord works to accomplish His goals on planet earth.  Therefore, nothing happens in this world without His permission, and, much of what does happen is a result of His direct intervention.  He causes nations and administrations to rise and to fall. (Daniel 2:21)  He was more involved in 9/11 than what most of us think.

Ezekiel 38 and 39 foretells one of the last wars of this age.  It's called the War of Magog.  Magog, or modern day Russia, allies itself with certain Islamic nations led by Persia and attacks Israel.  Persia became Iran on March 21, 1935.  It's clear from this passage that Iran has prophetic significance in the days ahead.  If the U. S. had of attacked Iran as she did Iraq, Iran would be in no shape to lead the Islamic coalition in the War of Magog.  God could not allow America to invade Iran.  Could this be the real reason for America's involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq instead of Iran?   Could the God of the Bible have kept Iran from falling to American jet fighters in order for Ezekiel 38 and 39 to come to pass?  Apparently so.

In my thinking, it appears the Lord was behind the Bush and Obama administration's negligence to investigate Iran's involvement in 9/11.  Despite the ideals of the American Christian right, I also believe the Lord was influencial in the election of President Obama.  The Bible clearly demonstrates that God often brings administrations into power that oppose Him for the purpose of accomplishing His will.  President Obama's reluctance to irritate Iran plays into God's hand because God will use Iran to bring Israel to repentance.

The War of Magog and the battles that follow will make 9/11 look like the war games my friends and I used to play as children in the school yard.  The missiles will fly over Jerusalem and Tel Aviv someday, and as predicted, all the nations of the world will gather in the Valley of Jezreel to fight the mother of all wars.  Jesus will come out from behind the curtain of world events and will visibly intervene in support of a repentant Israel that brings this age to an end.
