The Real Jesus

Is your mental image of Jesus based on what you read in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John?  Do you picture Him as a mild mannered, counter-cultural peace loving man who walked the dusty trails of Galilee?  If this is your mental image of Jesus I suggest you visit Revelation 1:12 to 16 to download His updated image into your life.

"I (John) turned around to see the voice of the one speaking to me.  And when I turned I saw ... one like the son of man, dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest.  His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes were like blazing fire.  His feet were like bronze glowing in the furnace, and His voice was like the sound of rushing waters.  In His right hand He held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp; double-edged sword.  His face was like the sun shining in all of its brilliance" (NIV).

No matter how you interpret Revelation, the Jesus John encountered was nothing like the Jesus he once knew.  This Jesus is no longer limited by a human body.  He exists outside of time and space as the Sovereign Lord over all things spiritual and material.  He is the Son of Man, the Hebrew designation for the Messianic King.  He is royalty, as seen in the way He is dressed.  He is the embodiment of purity, as seen in His white head and hair.  He is all-knowing, as seen in His eyes of fire that penetrate the very motives of our hearts.  He is a mighty warrior, as seen in His bronze furnace-like feet that incinerate His opposition.  His proclamations are final, as seen in His authoritative voice.  He is the universal conqueror, as seen in the double-edged sword proceeding from His mouth.  He, in this present moment, is the Jesus we stand before to offer our songs of praise and worship.

John's encounter with Jesus blew him away.  He fell at Jesus' feet as though he were dead (verse 17).  To put it in the vernacular of the street, this Jesus scares the hell out of anyone, but look, look how Jesus responded to John in His moment of terror.  This Messianic Mastermind of history placed His hand on John's shoulder and said, "Don't be afraid."  In other words, in the kind, loving, and gentle voice that John was familiar with, Jesus calmed his shattered nerves by saying, "It's okay John.  It's really me.  There's nothing to fear."  The Jesus John feared was the Jesus who dispelled every trace of terror with one loving touch of His hand.

In His essence, Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).  There is no doubt about that, but, He is no longer limited by a human form whose mission was to serve humanity through His death.  Jesus now reigns from His heavenly universal throne as the Supreme Authority over all things.  No one trumps Him.  He has the final word in all matters.  There is absolutely no one within or without the cosmos like Him.  He has no rivals.  He has no competition.  He is the Universal Champion.  All people and nations will kneel before Jesus in reverent fear, whether willingly or unwillingly, and proclaim Him to be Jesus Christ the Lord.

If this is not your mental image of Jesus, visit the book of Revelation and allow the Holy Spirit to download the updated revelation of the real Jesus into your life.  Knowing the real Jesus will do wonders for you.
