The Church Defeats Itself In Court

I have recently heard of a church split down the middle.  No, it is not the building that is split in half but the people.  It would be far better if it was simply the building.

In this instance half of the congregation has hired a lawyer against the pastor, and in turn the pastor has hired his own lawyer to carry out the fight.  How sad this is.

All that I can think of in a case like this is what Paul said in 1 Cor. 6:1-11.  In verse 7 he said that the Corinthians had been "completely defeated".  "Why not rather be wrong", he goes on to say.  Paul is saying here that it is better to accept the wrong against you than to go to court and cause shame to come on the church.

PS -  Since writing the above I have now heard of another church involved in a law suite among its divided members.  Ironically this church is only a 20 minute drive from the above mentioned church.  How tragic.
